ACLP shares the general public's concern about the COVID-19 pandemic

ACLP shares the general public's concern about the COVID-19 pandemic. As the organization reacts to this public health crisis, we are guided by the ACLP Vision:

ACLP advances psychosocial care and the emotional safety of children, youth, and families impacted by healthcare and significant life experiences.

As we experience this significant life event together, we wish to assure you - our members, conference attendees, and child life allies - that your physical and emotional safety are our highest priorities. We understand that the COVID-19 situation is changing daily and invite you to check our COVID-19 Updates webpage regularly to stay up to date about how COVID-19 is affecting our clinical and academic communities, Child Life Annual Conference, certification program, and other association initiatives.

We've created a COVID-19 forum for ACLP members and encourage program leaders and academic leaders to participate and keep one another apprised of changes as they happen at the clinical and academic levels. To subscribe to the COVID-19 forum, click the envelope icon after entering this forum space. Doing so will ensure you receive posts/responses specific to this forum. As always, please keep this space professional and supportive. This forum is offered as a means to keep the child life community apprised of the daily, fast-paced changes.

Child Life Annual Conference

For those who are registered to attend the Child Life Annual Conference in San Antonio on May 21-24, we are closely monitoring updates from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and local health organizations.

At this time, we plan on hosting the Annual Conference as scheduled. We will update members and other registrants immediately should that change.

We are hearing from members of our child life community that hospitals are temporarily shuttering volunteer programs leaving many to wonder what/if/when this will extend to child life interns and practicum students. Currently, we are in observation/data collection mode.

Moment by moment new trends are emerging. ACLP sees its role as a conduit for communication among members.
We also encourage both clinical and academic programs to communicate directly with their institutional administrations to stay abreast of swiftly changing policies.

It is important to note that, at this time, the Child Life Certification Commission is not considering changes to the eligibility requirements for certification.

Child Life Professional Certification Examination

ACLP and CLCC have been in contact with our test administration agency regarding the potential impact on the upcoming certification exam administration. Testing center closures are being made case by case and are based on specific government actions, including closures of local offices, public spaces, and university campuses, along with building closures where the test centers are located. The current list of closed testing centers can be found here:

We will continue to keep you informed of the latest changes through our COVID-19 Updates webpage and the COVID-19 forum. We are committed to providing ongoing relevant updates as they become available.
