THE CERTIFIED CHILD LIFE SPECIALIST (CCLS) credential is the exclusive certification issued by the Association of Child Life Professionals. The requirements for getting certified include academic and clinical experiences, and successful completion of the Child Life Professional Certification Examination. According to the Association of Child Life Professionals, “applicants must have completed a total of 10 college-level courses in child life or a related department/subject including a minimum of one child life course taught by a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS).” UCSB Professional and Continuing Education offers courses that may meet the requirements for becoming a CCLS.
ED X370.2: Child Life: Introduction to Theory and Practice is taught by a CCLS and meets the six required topics of study set forth by the Association of Child Life Professionals. Upon successful completion of this course the Child Life Course Verification Form is issued. You must present this form in order to participate in the Internships required by the Association of Child Life Professionals.
